For assured shorthold tenancies in England, security deposits are capped at 5 weeks' rent when the annual rent is under £50,000, and 6 weeks' rent when the annual rent is £50,000 or more. You must also protect the deposit in a government-approved scheme (DPS, MyDeposits or TDS) within 30 days of receipt.
